Where Exactly Is Panama Located In The World?

Panama, officially the Republic of Panama, is a beautiful country located in the Western Hemisphere. It is located in the subcontinent of Central America. Panama happens to be the southernmost country in Central America located between Costa Rica(to the north) and Columbia (to the south). Panama lies between latitude 7°N, and longitude 83°W. Panama is also bordered by water, with the Pacific Ocean along the south and the calm Caribbean sea bordering the northern stretch of the country.

An interesting feature of Panama is the fact that it is an isthmus. It is located in the narrowest part of the Isthmus of Panama. Panama being an isthmus, means that the land distance separating the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean is relatively short. The distance is so short that the Panama Canal only needed to be 77km long. This continues to be a key strategic feature of the country.

Panama benefits from its central location in the Western Hemisphere in multiple ways. Its location affords the country a warm temperate climate, which helps make it a popular tourist destination. The central location of Panama also makes it a convenient travel destination. For instance, a flight from Miami to Panama is only a couple hours long. Traveling from New York to Panama is only a flight time of about 5 hours. With such short flight times between Panama and nearly all major U.S. cities, Panama continues to grow as a popular U.S. tourist destination. On the other hand, Panama is significantly farther from Europe and Asia, increasing the competition between itself and other Caribbean countries for vacationers.

Its central location in the Western Hemisphere, warm climate, and miles of coast (both Pacific and Caribbean) make Panama an ideal destination for tourists and a splendid place to live, for expatriots and locals alike.
